The news of Jeffrey Epsteins' apparent suicide has taken another strange turn after a report of a post that described details of the accused sex trafficker's death on the anonymous message board, 4chan.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the post, which reportedly contained details only known to those who might have been present at the scene.
Epstein, 66, was discovered unconscious in his cell early Saturday morning, having passed away due to an apparent suicide. The accused pedophile had been previously placed on suicide watch after he was discovered nearly unconscious in his cell with injuries to his neck several weeks ago, however that was lifted several days before he was discovered in his cell.
The post appeared on 4chan about 38 minutes before the first reports of Epstein's death came out just before 9 a.m. ET.
"[D]on't ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this," the post reads.
Other users on the popular online forum tried to get more information out of the original poster, taunting him and expressing doubt that Epstein really had died. The OP added more details, including the procedures used to try and resuscitate Epstein.
According to a statement from a FDNY spokesperson, after reviewing the post, the department was able to determine it did not come from first responders in their department.
"We looked at the information provided by [a BuzzFeed News] reporter and we looked at our own records and there was no match," FDNY spokesperson Frank Dwyer told BuzzFeed News in a statement, adding that the post "doesn't match our medical records."
Authorities are working to find more information about the author of the post.
The New York City medical examiner's office conducted a autopsy of Epstein, but has held off on making a determination on his death until they get more information.
