Though Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is still months away from premiering, fans got the first extended sneak peak at the final chapter of the Skywalker sage during Disney's D23 expo over the weekend. After the new footage was spoken about enthusiastically online, Disney has finally released the trailer to the public. If you don't want to learn about a potential spoiler, though, look away now.

The trailer starts off with a highlight reel of the previous eight films in the saga before getting into never-before-seen footage from Rise of Skywalker. Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker) provides a voice-over for the footage in which he declares "We've passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now, but this is your fight."

Though not much in way of plot is given away in the trailer, fans get a quick glimpse of Carrie Fisher's final performance as Princess Leia, a massive fleet of Star Destroyers ready to attack, C-3PO with red eyes and an intense showdown between Rey and Kylo Ren on the ruins of the Death Star. The most shocking piece of footage comes at the very end. As Emperor Palpatine's chill-inducing voice says "your journey nears its end," the shot cuts to Rey in a black hooded robe unfolding a red double-sided lightsaber.

Will Rey turn to the dark side in Rise of Skywalker? Watch the trailer and decide for yourself:
