This one is for the ladies.
Ariana Grande joins forces with Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey in the feisty new music video for their hot new collab "Don't Call Me Angel." In the nearly four-minute visual for the record, the first to drop from the upcoming Charlie's Angels Soundtrack, the trio flaunt their defiance in the name of independence and self-reliance while strutting their stuff in all-black outfits and devilish angel wings to match.
Grande leads off the ladies-only anthem with a dreamy, rebellious hook over the mid-tempo beat. “Boy, don’t call me angel/ You ain’t got me right/ Don’t call me angel/ You can’t pay the price,” the pop star tells her suitor, later issuing the warning: "Don't you know that I bite when the sun set?"
Miley keeps the same — albeit physically aggressive — energy in the boxing ring, where she's made a man into her own personal punching bag. "Don't call me angel when I'm a mess/ Don't call me angel when I get undressed," she sings, before affirming her status as a self-made woman. "I make my money, and I write the checks/ So say my name with a little respect."
As the beat slows down to a more sensual tempo, Del Rey, elsewhere perfecting her dagger-throwing skills — aiming straight for the crotch — slips in with the seductive air of a true siren, singing, "I fell from Heaven, now I'm living like a devil/ You can't get me off your mind."
With everything you could ever want in an anthem, "Don't Call Me Angel" sits pretty as the millennial "Moulin Rouge."
