A young girl from South Villa Park, a suburb west of Chicago, was playing in her front yard when she came face to face with a coyote. The terrifying encounter was captured on surveillance cameras and showed the girl running for her life.

At first, the girl didn't notice the wild animal strolling down the street and wandering into the yard. As she walked toward a tire swing, she saw the coyote, and it started running towards her. She began to run to the porch, with the coyote following close behind. At one point, the coyote appears to make contact with the girl before running away.

The girl's mother told NBC Chicago that she was not hurt but was shaken up following the encounter. The family contacted the police who are working with the DuPage County Forest Preserve and the Illinois Conservation Police to track down the coyote to ensure it is not a threat to other people.

The DuPage County Forest Preserve advised residents to be cautious and contact them if they see a wild coyote. If the wild animal approaches you, officials suggest making loud noises to try to scare it away.

"If a coyote approaches you, be big, loud, and bold. Wave your hands above your head, or hold your jacket wide open. Shout or use a whistle or horn."
