Vermont Senator and 2020 Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has been hospitalized with his campaign announcing that they will cancel his events for the next several days, a campaign spokesman said.
"During a campaign event yesterday evening, Sen. Sanders experienced some chest discomfort," a spokesman for the Sanders campaign, Jeff Weaver, said in a statement. "Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. Sen. Sanders is conversing and in good spirits. He will be resting up over the next few days. We are canceling his events and appearances until further notice, and we will continue to provide appropriate updates."
Sanders, 78, was traveling to a forum on gun control in Las Vegas where several other 2020 Democratic presidential candidates are also scheduled to attend.
His fellow 2020 candidates were quick to wish the Vermont Senator a speedy recovery.
"Thinking of @BernieSanders today and wishing him a speedy recovery," California Senator Kamala Harris wrote on Twitter. "If there's one thing I know about him, he's a fighter and I look forward to seeing him on the campaign trail soon."
