A Florida police officer who pushed an 18-year-old suspect off the roof of a house was suspended for eight hours and decided to forfeit a single vacation day. Officer Plenio Massiah, Sgt. Anthony Amada and another officer got into a chase with Yadiel Torres, who was accused of stealing his girlfriend's car.

Massiah chased Torres to the roof of a home, and the teen thought about jumping down but saw two officers waiting below and realized he had nowhere to run.

"Now you've got no choice but to jump down, now you've got no choice," Massiah told Torres.

The teen said he wasn't going to run, and didn't want to jump down because he was afraid he would get hurt.

"Just push him off, push him off," Amada can be heard telling Massiah in the body camera footage.

At that point, Massiah placed his arm on Torres' shoulder and shoved him off the roof. When he hit the ground, he was tazed by Amada and taken into custody. Torres was not hurt in the nine-foot fall.

Massiah was found to have violated the department's policy on the use of force and was given an eight-hour suspension. Internal Affairs recommended that Amada should be terminated, but he resigned before they could file their report.

Amada was facing a separate excessive force violation and had recently been suspended for 120 hours for carelessness during a pursuit in 2018.

Torres pleaded guilty to grand theft of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest without violence, and violating probation from an earlier domestic violence case and was sentenced to probation.
