3 Soldiers Killed, 3 Hurt in Army Fort Stewart Training Accident

Three soldiers were killed and three others were injured during a training exercise at Fort Stewart in Georgia after an armored vehicle crashed.

The soldiers with the Army's 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, were reportedly riding in a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, but the specific details about the accident were not released. Three soldiers were declared dead at the scene, with three others being evacuated to Winn Army Community Hospital where they will be treated for their injuries.

"Today is a heartbreaking day for the 3rd Infantry Division, and the entire Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield community, as we are all devastated after a training accident this morning on the Fort Stewart Training Area," said Maj. Gen. Tony Aguto, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division. "We are extremely saddened by the loss of three Dogface Soldiers, and injuries to three more. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the families affected by this tragedy."

The investigation is ongoing with more information to be released as it becomes available, Fort Steward spokesman Lt. Col. Patrick Husted said in a statement.

The names of the soldiers will be released on Monday, he added.
