Kelly Ripa isn't really paying mind to the fuss about her Jimmy Kimmel Live! appearance, where the TV personality joked that her son is experiencing "extreme poverty" as he wraps up his last year at New York University. Still, the star made sure to clear the air when it comes to his situation and let it be known that she isn't thinking too much into the "fake outrage."

"Michael goes to college and is a senior and works full time," Ripa, 49, wrote in her comment section in response to a fan asking if the 22-year-old dropped out of school. "He is in his first non parent subsidized apt with roommates. I'm used to getting a lot of slack [sic] because people love to have fake outrage over something they didn't see. They only read a headline and wag their tired fingers."

Ripa went on to admit that she nor husband Mark Consuelos grew up privileged and they expect their eldest son to walk the same path in life. "We work and we expect our kids to as well. And the fact that a pack of fools want to b**ch about that, i say let em," she concluded.

In case you missed out, Ripa joked about her son's situation during her appearance on Kimmel and, needless to say, it prompted several headlines. "I think he loves the freedom. He hates paying his own rent and he's chronically poor," Ripa explained, admitting that "he's experiencing being an adult" while living in Bushwick, Brooklyn. "I don't think he ever really experienced extreme poverty like now."
