Sofi Tukker LIVE in NYC: Purple Hats, Dancing on the People, and More

Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, the individuals behind Sofi Tukker, ended the U.S. leg of their "R.I.P Shame World Tour" in the best way possible -- with a packed gig at Avant Gardner. It may have been a Thursday night, but that didn't stop family, friends, and die-hard Sofi fans from showing up and showing out at the Brooklyn warehouse for a hometown performance. The fashion throughout the venue -- largely inspired by Animal Talk parties that the duo hosted around the country -- was a sight for sore eyes. Guys in leopard print onesies, girls wearing neon crop tops, glitter, and sunglasses. Wigs and inflatable zebra dolls were also in attendance. They were filming the music video for "Purple Hat," from their newly released EP, Dancing on the People, and handed out hundreds of caps for fans in the crowd. The song's so nice they had to sing it twice.
Sophie walked offstage after "Fish," only to be carried back by openers Haiku Hands and LP Giobbi for "Emergency," a track inspired by Sophie breaking her leg. Its only lyrics -- "She broke her leg, call an ambulance (emergency)." A full-on dance party ensued, followed by a game of Simon Says.
Their elaborate set design incorporates jungle vibes, and their beloved book tree has gotten a major upgrade. Each Sofi Tukker show is even better than the last, you won't want to miss them the next time they play in your city. Check out some of the photos from the NYC stop below!
