Blake Shelton Says His Relationship With Gwen Stefani Is A 'Head Scratcher'

Blake Shelton recently joined fellow country star, Martina McBride on her podcast, Vocal Point, where he opened up about his relationship with Gwen Stefani.

Despite the fact that Shelton and Stefani have been together now for four year, the country singer admits he's still surprised they began dating in the first place. While on the podcast, Shelton compared the "shocking" relationship to being crowned Sexiest Man Alive in 2017 by People.

"If you thought the People magazine cover was shocking, mine and Gwen's relationship is probably the biggest head-scratcher," Shelton jokes to McBride.

Shelton goes on to share that during Stefani's first season on The Voice, the two didn't connect right away.

"I'll even say that she was, of all the coaches, the least that I had gotten to know the first season she was on the show because she had just had a baby, and I mean just had a baby," he explained. "And so any time there was downtime, she was busy."

"She was gone, she was on her trailers, she was taking car of the baby, you know, and there was never those moments that usually happen on this show, where at the end of the day we're sitting around out here at the couches and having a drink, talking, laughing."

Shelton goes on to explain how everything changed on her second season in 2015. At the time, he had just gone through a divorce with fellow country singer, Miranda Lambert while Stefani had just divorced rock star, Gavin Rossdale. The two were able to connect over their similar experiences and have been together ever since.

Shelton's confident that despite the difficult situations they both went through, everything happens for a reason. "And it's one of those things that, who knows?" he says. "It had to have been meant to be."

Currently, Shelton and Stefani are both coaching on this season of NBC's The Voice. The show airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
