A Massachusetts man might be receiving a few phone calls from some 'long-lost relatives' after he scored his second $1 million jackpot from the state lottery in the last 18 months.
According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, lightning struck twice for Rolf Rhodes after he walked into the Imperial Gas and Country Store in his hometown of Mendon and purchased the "$4,000,000 Instant Jackpot" ticket, winning the $1 million prize. Rhodes opted for the annuity option on his prize and received the first of 20 installments of $50,000 (before taxes) of the $1,000,000 prize. His winning purchase managed to beat the odds of 1-in-1.68 million, the state lotto said.
The store that sold him the lucky ticket will receive a one-time bonus of $10,000 for selling the ticket. Carra Kempton, a gas attendant and cashier at the store, told the Boston Herald that she'd been a customer at the store long before she started working there and it's the first time she's heard of the store selling a jackpot ticket.
“It’s pretty cool,” said Kempton.
Rhodes' first big million dollar win came after he scored on a "Hit $1,000" $10 instant ticket. Rhodes decided to receive that prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes) to his bank account. He purchased that ticket in Milford, Massachusetts, a town located near Mendon.
The state lotto said there were still three $4 million prizes available and seven other $1 million tickets available in the "$4,000,000 Instant Jackpot" game.
