Whether you like her or not, you have to admit that the 2010s has been a decade full of Kim Kardashian and the superstar is reflecting on her 10 years of influence in the latest issue of The New Yorker.

On Monday (November 25), the magazine released their new cove as part of their latest campaign, highlighting six high-profile figures that helped "shape" the last decade, and Kardashian, 39, opened up about it all. One of the more interesting bits fell on her talk about her sex symbol status, admitting that she perceives her sexuality in a different way than she did 10 years ago. "It can be complicated," she admitted. "I definitely see the things that I brought on myself, the biggest being the robbery. Just being flashy and oversharing my every move on social media. But I enjoy my life. Someone said to me the other day, 'What is it like being you?' It’s awesome."

Part of Kardashian's efforts include dressing differently. "I don’t know if it’s the fact that my husband has voiced that sometimes too sexy is just overkill and he’s not comfortable with that. I listen to him and understand him," she explained, admitting that Kanye West does give her freedom to be and do what she please. "But I have kind of had this awakening myself. I realized I could not even scroll through Instagram in front of my kids without full nudity coming up on my feed pretty much all the time. And I definitely contributed to that. I mean, one of my most iconic covers was the Paper magazine one, when I was all oiled up and ripping my dress off. I also did think, like, Okay, I’m here in the White House and then the next day I was posting, like, a crazy bikini selfie. And I was thinking, I hope they don’t see this. I have to go back there next week."

Ultimately, the conflict has helped the social media titan, who boasts 152 million followers, evolve into a space, where she doesn't feel the need or want to keep up. "Not that I did it to feel like I had to keep up, but I guess I just don’t care as much anymore to want to take tons of photos in a thong bikini," she continued. "I actually just want to lay out. I don’t care to take the time out of my day on vacation like I used to, where I’d pull up to the house and I’d see, This is a setup, this is an Instagram pic. Now this is a different setup. Oh, this place has so many different setups. This is going to be amazing. And now I’m just like, 'Let’s actually live in real time and enjoy it. If we happen to get a photo, great.'"

Who were the 2010s? For the newest issue of @nymag, we spoke with six people who helped shape the decade, including Kim Kardashian West. Closing out the 2010s, @kimkardashian has transcended the television show that made her famous, becoming an advocate for criminal justice reform as she studies to be a lawyer. In capturing her for the magazine’s cover—shot by Colombian-American photographer Ruven Afanador, known for his graphic, black-and-white portraits—the aim was to highlight Kim’s piercing gaze and confidence by keeping the styling and set decor as minimal as possible.
