Lil Bub, Beloved Celebrity Cat, Dies At Age 8

The internet has lost another famous feline with the recent passing of Lil Bub.

According to a statement from owner Mike Bridavsky, the beloved celebrity cat “passed away peacefully in her sleep” at aged 8 on Sunday (December 1) after battling an ongoing bone infection. Mike delivered the sad news to Bub’s fans with a side-by-side Instagram post of the kitten from her birth in 2011 to the present time.

“On the morning of Sunday, December 1st 2019 we lost the purest, kindest and most magical living force on our planet. BUB was cheerful and full of love laying in our bed with us Saturday night, but unexpectedly passed away peacefully in her sleep,” Mike revealed in the post. “I have always been fully transparent about BUB’s health, and it was no secret that she was battling a persistent and aggressive bone infection. Even knowing this, we weren’t expecting her to pass so soon or so abruptly without warning.”

“I truly believe that she willingly made the decision to leave her failing body so that our family would not have to make that difficult decision ourselves…” he continued. “Dearest BUB, I will never forget your generosity, your limitless supply of love, or your uncanny ability to bring so much magic and joy to the world. I am forever honored and humbled that you chose me as your caretaker. Please visit all of us in our dreams o.”

With millions of followers across social media, Bub made her launch to fame as a music sensation in 2014, and later released a record of her own called Science and Magic. She’s appeared on programs like The View, Good Morning America, Today, and even her own documentary in 2013, Lil Bub & Friendz, which won a Tribeca Online Festival award.

Out of the spotlight, Bub launched her own charity, Lil Bub’s Big Fund, with ASPCA to raise money to aid other special needs animals across the nation, and became a beacon of hope and inspiration for her will to live.
