Luke Bryan Honors Late Niece With Giving Tuesday Campaign

In 2012 Giving Tuesday was launched with the hopes that people would feel encouraged to give back in the spirit of the holiday season. Years later, and the day is still recognized by many, including country music star, Luke Bryan

This year on Giving Tuesday (December 3), Bryan launched a campaign that is very special to him. The "Knockin' Boots" singer is raising funds for the Brett Boyer Foundation in honor of his niece, Sadie Brett Boyer, who died in February of 2017.

Sadie was the daughter of Bryan's wife Caroline's brother, Bo Boyer and his wife, Ellen. When Sadie was born, she had congenital heart disease (CHD) and died at the age of seven months. The foundation was started in her memory with the mission to "raise awareness for Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) and fund research to advance treatment options. It is also our mission to spread the love and awareness that Brett filled us with for the wonderful, capable people living with Down Syndrome."

Tuesday (December 3), Bryan took to Facebook to talk about how CHD death rates have decreased in the last decade by about 30 percent. "But we want to do better," he says, adding, "we can do better."

"Our hopes are not just for children with congenital heart disease to live and survive," he continues. "We want them to thrive and live long and healthy lives."

Bryan then urged his followers to donate to the Brett Boyer Foundation. His fundraiser raised $1,618 of its $5,000 goal within hours of the post going live on Facebook. Most recently, about $4,962 has been raised, leaving just $38 left to reach the goal.
