House Approves Bill to Make Robocalls Illegal

December 5, 2019

Robocalls may soon be going the way of cigarette commercials and phone booths.

In a near-unanimous vote, the House of Representatives on Wednesday approved a bill that seeks to make the practice of robocalling illegal. "A whopping 5.6 billion robocalls were made to Americans in November alone," one of the bill's sponsors, Tom Pallone, said prior to the 417-3 vote. "Today, the House is giving Americans back control of their phones."

Next, the bill heads to the Senate, where it's expected to be approved.
