Taylor Swift and her Cats co-stars just put on a purr-fect performance of their song “Memory.”
During Wednesday night’s broadcast (December 18) of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer-songwriter and her fellow castmates Jason DeRulo, Jennifer Hudson, Francesca Hayward, and James Corden teamed up with Jimmy Fallon and The Roots to deliver quite the special rendition of the emotional soundtrack record.
Though, instead of putting a spin on the tune with Fallon’s signature classroom instruments interpretations, the stars channeled the movie’s theme with the use of street instruments for an alleyway-inspired presentation. Trash can lids, milk bottles, brooms, buckets, rain gutters — you name it!
The performance comes just days ahead of the world premiere of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical fantasy film, wherein, over the course of one night, a pride of cats called the Jellicles must decided which of the cats will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and rebirth to a new life. Swift stars as the flirty feline Bombalurina in her first role since appearing in 2014's The Giver. In addition to “Memory,” the 30-year-old singer songwriter also co-wrote the original motion picture soundtrack record “Beautiful Ghosts,” which recently earned the superstar a 2020 Golden Globes nomination for Best Original Song.
Cats opens in theaters on Friday, December 20.
