Christmas is a time for giving, however, that generally means giving things you yourself have earned or purchased, a lesson one Colorado man may have missed.
David Oliver, 65, was arrested on Monday after allegedly walking into Academy Bank on Monday around 1 p.m. claiming he had a weapon and taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank, the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
According to witnesses, after Oliver robbed the bank, the suspect went outside and began throwing the money up into the air yelling, "Merry Christmas," KKTV reported.
"He robbed the bank, came out, threw the money all over the place,'" Dion Pascale told the news outlet, adding that he'd seen the whole incident unfold.
Bystanders scooped up the money and returned most of the money to the bank teller, however, Colorado Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Jim Jeffocat told reporters that thousands of dollars were still missing.
Police didn't have to go far to catch up with the suspect. They found Oliver sitting in front of a coffee shop shortly after the robbery and was taken into custody, the CSPD said.
Police didn't find a weapon.
