Cyndi Lauper "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" Originally Recorded By A Man!

December 28, 2019

Kind of amazing to hear this version. The song that made Cyndi Lauper a worldwide superstar was originally written and recorded by a guy! His name is Robert Hazard and this version was recorded in 1979 fours years before Cyndi Lauper covered it and made the song a worldwide smash hit! I actually like this version of it because of it's 70's new wave/punk sound. Kinda sounds like Dead Kennedy's Jello Biafra on vocals. The thing is, Hazard never officially released this version. It was just a demo. He knew that the song was quite right for him. Instead, he waited for the right singer to come along to record and release it. That singer was Cyndi Lauper. It was one of the best financial decisions he ever made as he received handsome royalty payments from the worldwide success of Cyndi Lauper's version of the song for the rest of his life. Robert Hazard sadly passed away in 2008 at age 59 but the song he wrote, an anthem for women, lives on. Check out it below and check out his other songs that were also early 80's MTV hits:
