Music was a cornerstone for Michael Ray growing up. In fact, he can’t remember a time without it.

Michael's family could often be heard sitting around in picking circle playing music together, each of his cousins either strumming guitars or layering on vocal harmonies. “My grandfather would sit around and teach me and my cousins how to play and sing harmony,” Ray recalls. But, one of his favorite memories is when he was given his first electric guitar.

“I started playing when my grandfather showed me my first 3 chords on an acoustic guitar,” Michael tells CMT Radio host Cody Alan. “It’s one of those things when you see Brad Paisley rocking out, you see Keith Urban shred, and all these dudes in Kenny Chesney’s band playing electrics and, I am like, “I want that. I want an amp. I want to annoy my sister!”

“My stepdad got me my first guitar.” That was the fire starter for this country smoke show who would go on to blaze up radio charts with singles like, “Kiss You In The Morning,” “Her World Or Mine,” and “One That Got Away.”
