Following the shocking deaths of Kobe and Gigi Bryant, Kanye West held a midnight post-Grammys Sunday Service in their honor to begin the healing process.

Held in Burbank California early Monday (January 27) morning, Ye invited gospel singer Kirk Franklin and Chance the Rapper to honor the late legend and all those who lost their lives in the tragic Sunday morning (January 26) helicopter crash. Videos of the impromptu service show Kirk delivering a short sermon, while Chance performed his verse on "Ultralight Beam." Kanye also reportedly issued a freestyle tribute to his late friend. Kanye's wife Kim Kardashian and her sister Kourtney were also in attendance. Kim wrote of her heartbreak following news of Kobe and Gigi's passing on Instagram earlier in the day, writing, "My heart is so heavy. No one should ever experience what the families involved are going through. This has affected us all so much but I cannot begin to imagine what Vanessa is feeling losing her husband and her baby girl. I cry just thinking about it. I am praying for the Bryant family, the Altobelli family and the families of all who perished in this unthinkable tragedy. Rest In Peace Legend."

Ahead of his Sunday Service, Kanye spoke of losing his "brother" on Twitter. "Kobe, We love you brother," he wrote. "We’re praying for your family and appreciate the life you’ve lived and all the inspiration you gave."

The death of Kobe, 13-year-old Gigi, and the seven other passengers (including the pilot) aboard the aircraft sent shockwaves throughout the world. Both those who knew Kobe personally as well as those who knew him only as a fan have been in mourning following the heartbreaking news of his death. Many have shared tributes to the late basketball star, including at the 2020 Grammys in Los Angeles on Sunday where host Alicia Keys and Boyz II Men performed an a cappella version of "It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday."
