Demi Lovato Recalls 'Really Beautiful' Moment She Came Out To Her Parents

Demi Lovato’s parents fully support her self-discovery journey.

In a new interview with Andy Cohen, the “Sorry Not Sorry” musician, who identifies as sexually fluid, opened up about the overwhelming experience of coming out to her parents, and how the discovery has influenced her outlook on potentially starting a family with a man or a woman.

“I’m still figuring it out,” Lovato told Cohen of her sexual identity. “I didn't officially tell my parents that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman until 2017.”

“It was actually emotional, but really beautiful,” she recalled. “After everything was done, I was like shaking and crying. I just felt overwhelmed. I have such incredible parents. They were so supportive."

While the revelation came as no surprise to the Grammy-nominated musician’s father, Lovato revealed, “My mom was the one that I was super nervous about, but she was like, ‘I just want you to be happy.' And that was so beautiful and amazing. I'm so grateful.”

Touching on the prospect of parenthood, Lovato added: “I don't know what my future looks like. I don't know if I'm going to have kids this year or in 10 years. I don't know if I'm gonna do it with a partner or without, because women don't need partners. Amen!”

A week after baring her soul with the live-debut of her new song “Anyone” at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, Lovato will be doing the honors of performing the national anthem at Super Bowl LIV on Sunday (February 2).
