Princess Diana's former butler and close friend, Paul Burrell, took to Instagram to share a previously unseen private letter Diana wrote to him. The letter contains the late princess's wish for her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. Though the words would be meaningful regardless, they feel particularly powerful in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to step down as full time working members of the Royal Family.
"As Harry, Meghan and Archie embark on a new life, I am reminded of some poignant words which Princess Diana wrote to me many years ago," Burrell wrote in his caption. "They are a mother’s words of unconditional love which are as appropriate today as they were when she wrote them over 24 years ago."
Since Princess Diana's handwriting may be hard to read, Burrell transcribed her powerful words in his caption, as well. She wrote: “I love my boys to death and hope that the seeds I’ve planted will grow and bring the strength, knowledge and stability that is needed.”
Unsurprisingly, the tragic loss of his mother at just 12-years-old has had a lasting impression on Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex spoke about his mother's death, which was the result of a car chase with paparazzi, multiple times over the past few months. He's been open about how paparazzi and media scrutiny on his wife reminds him of what happened to his mom. Stepping down from his role is how he plans to protect his family from "history repeating itself."
Princess Diana would surely be proud of her son and be happy to know the seeds she's planted have, indeed, grown and brought the "strength, knowledge and stability" Harry needs in his new life as a husband and father.
