Justin Bieber has opened up for the first time about his past drug abuse and journey to sobriety.

In the fifth episode of his YouTube docu-series, Seasons, the 25-year-old singer spoke at great length about his issues with drugs, revealing that things got so bad at one point his team had to check on him periodically to make sure he was still alive.

“My security would come into my room at night to check my pulse,” he revealed of his "Dark Season." Adding, “People don’t know how serious it got. It was legit crazy, scary. I was waking up in the morning and the first thing I was doing was popping pills and smoking a blunt and starting my day. It just got scary.”

Justin admitted that he used to consume an array of drugs — lean, pills, Molly, mushrooms, and more — as a form of "escape."

“I was young, like everybody in the industry and people in the world who experiment and do normal, growing up things,” he shared. “But my experience was in front of cameras and I had a different level of exposure. I had a lot of money and a lot of things.”

While he didn't blame his parents or his upbringing for his drug abuse, Justin explained that not coming from a stable household was at the root of his early issues with trying to find validation and happiness in the wrong things. “I started valuing the wrong things in this business, because there was things dangling in front of me,” he said. “If I get this, I’ll be happy. If I do this, I’ll be happy. These are things that I think a lot of people with secure households learn at a young age. I never heard that security in a family. I never had that consistency. I never had the reliability and the accountability.”

However, that all changed when Justin hit rock bottom — as he explained it, he got to a point where he felt like he was dying — and he decided that he not only wanted to get sober, but he also wanted to work on himself from the inside out, which included hiring brain disorder specialist Dr. Daniel Amen.

While working with Dr. Amen, Justin found that he had been misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, and began to tackle his issues with depression and anxiety head-on. In addition to taking anti-depressants, the "Yummy" singer revealed that he also uses a hyperbaric oxygen chamber to help with his anxiety.

“Being the best me is gonna help me be the best husband, the best father, the best friend that I can possibly be,” Justin said. “And for all the fans that want to enjoy the music that I make — I can’t do it if I’m not healthy. I haven’t been healthy for a long time.”
