In a recent Vogue magazine cover story, Billie Eilish made a comment about how some hip-hip is mere fiction and fantasy.
This did not sit well with hip-hop fans and many in the hip-hop community.

the normal white woman pop career path. miley did the same thing. https://t.co/6kIXk1nTwU
white alternative girls love being like “ugh rap is all abt posturing 🥱 i’m REAL” whole time their entire image hinges on shedding their suburban background to be “edgy” https://t.co/NRgi4Nacjq

Troy Smith over at Cleveland.com did an article about it too. The article title?
"Billie Eilish loses cool points for criticizing rap music"
So... I'm over here going... Now, if anyone criticizes rap... it's a problem???
I couldn't help myself. Had to tweet about it.
So @clevelanddotcom's @troylsmith claims @billieeilish lost "cool points" for criticizing hip-hop posturing. Remember folks- ONLY hip-hop artists are allowed to have opinions on hip-hop!!! @965KissFM

Troy from Cleveland.com's responses:
Only hip-hip artists are allowed to have opinions...? U saying that? Cuz I didn’t. Also Billie Eilish can say whatever the hell she wants, like it’s cool for her to create characters in songs so she can write about stuff she doesn’t actually do.
— Troy Smith (@troylsmith) February 5, 2020
But when u go at another genre u aren’t associated with or educated about u come off as uninformed and ignorant. So that’s an opinion about her opinion. Just like I don’t sit here and ponder why country artists wrote about what they write about.

No. NO. NO!
That's wrong. My response:
You call it "going at". I call it "having an opinion". The notion that since she's a pop star she can't make criticisms/observations about hip-hop because it's not her genre...? Naw. Not having that.

(And yes... I was on @98Pxy and @KISSRochester for a time!)#GarbagePlates https://t.co/us0dJIjdCd
This whole thing if you're not "in the culture" you can't have opinions on it???
Nope. As a passionate, lifelong music fan... I am NOT having this.
I will continue to share my opinions of ALL types of music regardless of where it comes from.
Here's my audio response to the whole dumb, overblown, fake drama thang
