Lil Nas X's spooky video for "Rodeo" has arrived and it sees the superstar recruit Nas for the clip, which lifts a page from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and The Matrix.
The three-minute video, which was directed by British duo Bradley & Pablo, sees the star, 20, make his way into a phone booth and get bit by a sparkling vampire. After stumbling around the streets, he makes his way into a pharmacy, where his ghoulish transformation becomes more apparent. Viewers are met with some product placement from Doritos and Estee Lauder, before the star is seen fully transitioned into a devilish creature with red eyes, pointy ears and a shiny black catsuit. The storyline only intensifies when OG Nas appears for his guest verse in a Matrix-inspired outfit, offering the star one of two pills. He chooses the red one, which unlocks some superhuman speed and he's able to escape his agent enemies without any harm.
As for why original track star Cardi B doesn't appear in the action-packed video, it seemed her schedule wouldn't permit. "I didn’t 'kick' cardi off of rodeo. she couldn’t do the video," Nas X tweeted, adding, "we cool tho."
"I thought it would be its own moment for hip-hop," Lil Nas previously told Billboard of the remix. "Just to have that whole [idea] of 'Nas doesn't like Lil Nas' perish. It was dope of him to hop on the song. The best advice he told me was to 'Keep your foot on their necks.'"
In related news, Lil Nas X is up for multiple nominations at the 2020 iHeartRadio Music Awards. Fans can watch the ceremony live on FOX on Sunday, March 29th at 8pm ET. The event will also be broadcast on iHeartMedia stations nationwide and on iHeartRadio.
