Jennifer Lopez brought the heat to Super Bowl LIV, and some critics thought she was too hot to handle. Literally.

In response to critics slamming her and Shakira’s iconic Super Bowl halftime show for being “too sexy,” the 50-year-old musician and mommy of two said she can’t even be bothered to take the complaint seriously. “I think that’s honestly silliness,” Lopez told Variety during Saturday’s (February 8) appearance at the Independence Awards.

“Both of us are really respectful performers who are moms and have kids and are very conscious of what we do,” she continued. “We (put on) a show that I believe was a celebration of women and our Latino culture that I think was really well reserved. And that small faction of people who want to be negative about it, I can’t even let in.”

No matter what the haters say, Lopez feels the performance was "amazing" and is proud of the "many beautiful things" that went into it. “The message of standing up for yourself, being a women – that’s what I want to pass on to little girls – everything about you – be proud of it,” the "Medicine" star explained. “I’m very proud of the performance that night.”

In case you missed it, the Puerto Rican and the Colombian superstars delivered one of the most spirited and electrifying halftime performances of all-time last weekend. Using the moment to celebrate their Latinx pride, the pop stars incorporated tons of dance routines influenced by different cultures, brought out J Balvin and Bad Bunny as special guests, and sent a politically-charged message that addressed the crisis of the Mexico-U.S. border.

The “too sexy” complaint wasn’t the only misunderstanding of the show. As custom with today’s culture, it wasn’t long before Twitter users would make a meme of the tongue-waging cry the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer did during her set for laughs — not knowing the gesture was Shakira’s way of paying homage to her Lebanese heritage.
