Huey Lewis and the News has just released a new album but won’t be able to listen to it.
Lewis’ hearing has become so compromised by Meniere’s disease, Weather could be the band’s last album because of it.
“I can’t hear the notes – I just hear cacophony,” Lewis told NPR of the inner-ear disorder.
In April 2018, the band called off a tour, announcing that Lewis couldn’t hear music well enough to sing.
Lewis lost most of the hearing in his right ear in the mid-’80s, but was able to carry on.
Now, it’s a different story.
“It’s hard for me to find pitch so I can’t sing to the music,” he said.
Huey Lewis and the News went stratospheric when The Power Of Love became the theme for Back To The Future.
Guitarist Chris Hayes gave Lewis the chord progression he’d written for a new song while Lewis came up with the lyrics… while out jogging.
“I was thinking of my family,” he told the Wall Street Journal.
“I had married a year earlier, and we had our first child, Kelly, in ’84. Austin was on the way. I was no longer a bachelor. The power of love keeps you home at night.”
