Dermot Kennedy Talks Legacy At Chase Sound Check Show

Dermot Kennedy isn't slowing down.

On Thursday (February 27), the Irish singer-songwriter, who has the uncanny ability to make you feel any emotion he's evoking through his music, took a break, well, more like a detour, from his on-going "Without Fear Tour" to bless fans with a free, intimate concert at Marquee New York for Chase Sound Check. The event is Chase’s owned music platform giving cardholders access to their favorite artists in cool venues around the country – for free.

For his acoustic performance, which was hosted by Elvis Duran and the Morning Show's Garrett, Dermot played a number of songs off his debut album Without Fear and answered a few fan questions — one of the most profound being, what is the legacy he'd like to leave?

"I want to look back on everything I've done and look at really important bodies of work," he told the crowd. "I don't want to be just scattered and singles. I want to have left a proper legacy of music where it was never lazy, where it moved with culture. I just want to look back and be proud of everything [I've done]. "

As for the actual show, well, Dermot left nothing on the stage. In fact, if you were among the lucky few Chase cardholders to snag a ticket to the free show, you couldn't help but relish in the intimacy of the moment, which felt almost fleeting as Dermot belted out his fan-favorite tracks —"Outnumbered," "Power Over Me," and "All My Friends," to name a few — and the fragility of the moment set in: Dermot Kennedy is bound for arenas — he deserves them.
