Eric Paslay and his family are all safe after taking a "direct hit" from the devastating Nashville tornado. The country singer turned to social media to give an update to fans revealing feelings of gratitude but also utter sadness for the lives lost and total destruction.
The "Friday Night" singer posted a photo of himself smiling with his wife, baby, and police rescue worker in front of their house. "Hi all. Thank-you so much for reaching out to check on us," he said alongside the photo. "It was an incredibly scary night with a direct hit from the tornado. Fortunately, we had enough warning to get downstairs to our shelter with an additional 30 seconds to spare before it was on top of us. We are smiling in this picture because we are beyond happy and grateful to be standing together, unharmed, surrounded by the best friends, neighbors, volunteers, and first responders you could ever hope for."
He continues on to explain that at the time that the photo was taken they didn't know there were lives lost.
"We are smiling in this picture because at the time that it was taken, we didn’t realize that there were lives lost," he added. "We are so sad and are hurting for those families and their losses. Hold your loved ones tight. We love y’all- Stay safe out there."
At this time, according to The Associated Press, the tornadoes caused over 40 buildings to collapse in and around downtown Nashville leaving 24 people dead and many more homeless.
A shelter for those in need has been established at the Nashville Farmers Market located at 900 Rosa L. Parks Blvd. Those interested in helping the Nashville community can donate to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee’s Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund here. Hands on Nashville, the Red Cross and other organizations are also organizing donations and volunteers.
