Matthew Broderick says his sister, Janet Broderick, will make a full recovery after testing positive for coronavirus earlier this week. In a hopeful statement regarding Janet’s health and well-being following her COVID-19 (coronavirus) diagnosis, Matthew told PEOPLE the 64-year-old pastor is currently hospitalized and on the mend in Beverly Hills, California.
“My entire family is grateful for the concern about, and the well wishes for, my sister Janet. I’m happy to say she is feeling much better and is on the road to a full recovery,” the Ferris Bueller's Day Off actor said. “We are all very appreciative for the wonderful care she received from the amazing doctors and nurses at Cedars-Sinai.”
Janet, a pastor at All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, was hospitalized Wednesday night (March 11) after falling ill with a “severe form of pneumonia” during a conference in Louisville, Kentucky. She was admitted into the ICU at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills and subsequently placed under isolation before test results confirmed she had contracted COVID-19.
At the time of her condition, the church stated, “She is receiving the best medical care available and her doctors’ prognosis is for a complete and full recovery. It will take some time, but Janet is resting comfortably at Cedars until the time she is released and can return home to complete her recovery.”
Janet also remained hopeful amid her ailment, telling friends in a letter that she was “through the worst of this and very very much on the mend.”
Since the World Health Organization characterized the disease as a pandemic, there have been over 2,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, with the death toll climbing to 59, 25 of which verified in Washington.
