Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear is livid because a young adult in the state tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a coronavirus party. He said that the partygoers purposely ignored guidance from state officials to avoid large gatherings and practice social distancing.
"This is one that makes me mad, and it should make you mad," the governor said.
He chastised the group for "thinking they were invincible" and going out while state officials advised against it.
"Anyone who goes to something like this may think they're indestructible, but it's someone else's loved one that they are going to hurt," he said.
As the number of cases in the state increased by 39 to a total of 163, Beshear announced that all businesses not considered "life-sustaining" will have to shut down as officials try to flatten the curve and slow the spread of the virus.
"We are battling for the health and the lives of our parents and our grandparents," he said. "Don't be callous as to intentionally go to something and expose yourself to something that will hurt other people. We ought to be much better than that."
