A tornado touched down near downtown Jonesboro, Arkansas, Saturday evening, with video posted to social media showing extensive damage to a mall, and piles of debris left behind by the tornado strike.
There are early reports of some injuries, but no fatalities.
Severe weather had been reported in the region, with the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center issuing a "Particularly Dangerous Situation" for parts of the midwest through Saturday evening. Hail and tornadoes are expected, along with 70-mph winds.
Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said he was paying close attention to reports of the tornado hit in Jonesboro.
"I know there is property damage. Just praying all is safe," Hutchinson wrote on Twitter.
