Lady Antebellum was the special artist guest of the season two premiere of Songland, which aired on Monday (April 13).
During the episode, four songwriters pitched their songs to the country trio in hopes that they would see the potential and decide to record it themselves. Aspiring songwriter, Madeline Merlo and Songland mentor, Shane McAnally, ended up winning with the light-hearted song, "Champagne Night."
Following the episode, Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, released the song along with a new music video. The clip features the band members alongside several actors dancing and singing to the song from their homes.
"Songland was one of the most incredible and inspiring experiences,” Merlo said in a statement. "The knowledge I obtained throughout is invaluable, and the opportunity to work with such seasoned and decorated songwriters is something I won't ever forget. As a young songwriter in this business, I felt so validated and honored by this experience."
She continues, "Lady Antebellum was so kind and gracious to me, and it was incredibly cool to be able to pitch a song to a band that I admire so much. I made lifelong friends, grew as a writer all while getting to share my vocals and songwriting abilities on network television.”
In addition to Lady Antebellum, season two of Songland will also feature Boyz II Men, Florida Georgia Line, Luis Fonsi, H.E.R., Martina McBride, Julia Michaels, Ben Platt, Bebe Rexha and Usher. Check out Lady Antebellum's new video for "Champagne Night" below.
