Some more information about why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to step down from their positions within the Royal Family have come to light. While the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have spoken candidly about the constant criticism from the British tabloid press and their desire for a more private life, Meghan also reportedly suffered some internal clashes with the longtime Buckingham Palace staffers.

According to a new report from The New Yorker, the Buckingham Palace staff was "less enamored of the very qualities that made her irresistible to the press: her showbiz lustre, self-confidence, and feminist habits of assertion." Though Meghan's can-do spirit and motivation reportedly didn't thrill the royal staff, one of her Suits co-stars recently revealed everyone set called the Duchess "Meghan who gets s**t done."

The Telegraph's Camilla Tominey told the New Yorker that staffers believed Meghan's more fast paced celebrity lifestyle didn't line up with how things functioned at Buckingham Palace. “I’ve put it down to a clash of cultures, in the sense that she had come from the celebrity world, which is very fast-paced and quite demanding,” she explained. “The royal world is very different—it’s much slower-paced, and hugely hierarchical. In the royal world, it’s ‘What should we do next?’ ‘Well, what did we do last time?’”

Meghan reportedly had trouble getting a full grasp on all the royal rules she was expected to follow—both written and unwritten. "It's a bit like Downton Abbey—there's a hierarchy of staff who have been at Buckingham Palace for years and years, to serve Queen and country," Tominey continued. "And, therefore, for Harry and Meghan to be making demands, there was a bit of below-stairs chatter, particularly with the Duchess, that was 'Well, hang on a minute, who do you think you are?'"

Meghan and Harry are now living in Los Angeles with Archie and reportedly hope to one day purchase a home in Malibu, where Princess Diana once dreamed of raising both of her sons.
