Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spent Easter Sunday giving back in Los Angeles. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid a visit to Project Angelfood, which cooks and delivers over 600,000 meals each year, free of charge, to the homes of men, women, and children affected by life-threatening illnesses, and helped them carry out their mission. Project Angelfood's CEO Richard Ayoub recounted his experience with Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan on a phone call with KOST's Ellen K Morning Show.
"On Easter Sunday, the Duke and Duchess wanted to be of service," Ayoub recalled. "They wanted to see some of Project Angelfood's clients, so they came in. I gave them a tour of the kitchen and one of the very first questions I asked was 'how should I refer to you? As Duke and Duchess?' Their quick response was 'No, Harry and Meghan.'"
Ayoub also shared how impressed Harry and Meghan were with the work Project Angelfood does. "They were very inquisitive and compassionate. They wanted to know more." After their tour was over, Harry and Meghan took meals prepared by Project Angelfood and delivered them to clients in Burbank and Glendale. "They loved the experience so much and asked if they could come back," Ayoub revealed.
The Duke and Duchess did return to Project Angelfood on Wednesday (April 15) to deliver meals to people in West Hollywood. "They've been doing this quietly. They've delivered meals to 20 different clients," Ayoub added. "They told me they were overwhelmed with the gratitude they got from the clients."
In addition to helping Project Angelfood's clients, Harry and Meghan also "wanted to give our drivers a break. Most of our drivers make 50-60 deliveries a day," Ayoub explained. "They wanted to lighten the load and they're really concerned about the vulnerable communities that we serve."
Ayoub also shared how Harry and Meghan learned about Project Angelfood. "Well, Meghan obviously used to live L.A. and she was looking for something to do [with Harry] on Easter. She asked her mother and she said 'Project Angelfood needs help.'" Meghan took her mom's advice to visit Project Angelfood and give them a hand.
