On Saturday (April 18), the World Health Organization and Global Citizen teamed up for a special event dubbed "One World: Together At Home." The show, featuring dozens of artists from across genres, celebrates and supports the brave healthcare workers at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
One artist included in the special was country music star Kacey Musgraves. "I just wanted to say a sincere thank you to all the people out there that are risking their lives to get everyone through this crazy time- thank you," she says, adding, "It means so much to me."
Offering a message of hope in these hard times, Musgraves decided to perform "Rainbow" for viewers. "I've also really been loving seeing everyone's rainbows in their windows, it inspired me to sing this song for you," she adds ahead of her performance.
"When it rains it pours but you didn't even notice / It ain't rainin' anymore, it's hard to breathe when all you know is / The struggle of staying above, the rising water line," Musgraves sings. "Well the sky is finally open, the rain and wind stopped blowin'/ But you're stuck out in the same old storm again / You hold tight to your umbrella, well, darlin' I'm just tryin' to tell ya / That there's always been a rainbow hangin' over your head."
"Rainbow" comes from Musgraves' 2018 Golden Hour album. Upon its release, she expressed how she hoped "Rainbow" would give a sense of encouragement to people facing difficult times.
