Crazy (But Real) Covid Conspiracies On ‘Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know’

The coronavirus is changing nearly everything about our everyday lives as we work to keep the spread of the virus from getting out of control. But this leaves a lot of room for conspiracy theories to crop up, and for actual conspiracies to happen right before our eyes. On this episode of Stuff They Don’t Want You To Know, our hosts Ben Bowlin, Noel Brown, and Matt Frederick catch up on the Covid crisis: the concerns around the stimulus package, the 2020 election, and whether or not coronavirus is a purposely-engineered bioweapon, or caused by 5G technology. “Some of these things sound crazy, and they are,” Ben says. “And some of these things sound crazy, and they’re real.”

The stimulus package is forefront on the guys’ minds as they debate whether or not it has too much protection for big business at the expense of small businesses. Globally, this is a problem, not just here in the States; in China, over 240,000 businesses have failed since the start of the pandemic. Could we be setting ourselves up for a corporate coup like we’ve never seen before, "with all goods and services provided by five or six companies?" Noel wonders. After all, Ben points out, politics and business are “fingers on a hand, as different as they may try to appear.” There are also huge concerns that the pandemic could interfere with the election: Many states haven’t been able to cast votes in the primary. “What does that mean for November?” Ben asks. 

They also talk about the theory, popular in Iran, that America created the virus purposely, as a bioweapon. Ben says that a virus is not a great choice of weapon, lacking precision and efficiency; but Matt points out that since we’re still in active conflicts there, perhaps it’s not a surprise Iran doesn’t have a lot of trust to spare. The most popular theory of all is that 5G is responsible for the deaths caused by the virus. It’s not, the guys say flatly – but there is a real conspiracy going on behind the scenes here.
