Though dining in currently isn't an option at restaurants and fast food chains across the country, many have remained open by pivoting to delivery and pick up, as well as keeping their drive-thru's open if they have them. In order to ensure essential workers and drivers of trucks and other service vehicles are still able to access their drive-thrus, Taco Bell opened a special "truck-thru" at their Irvine, California headquarters.
The “truck-thru” will provide free meals for front line workers whose job requires driving large essential service vehicles, including truck drivers, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, law enforcement, and media news vans, according to a press release. The menu will have Taco Bell's most popular menu items, as well, including Crunchwrap Supremes, bean burritos, Cinnamon Twists, and Baja Blasts.
Though Taco Bell headquarters has test kitchens on sight, they don't typically use headquarters to feed the public. The truck-thru will only be open until May 1, as well, and will operate between the hours of 11 a.m.-2 p.m..
This isn't the only initiative Taco Bell has taken in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesdays, Taco Bell offers free Doritos Locos Taco at their drive-thrus. In addition to free Doritos Locos Tacos, Taco Bell recently released a new cravings pack that includes four tacos and four burritos for only $10.
