Katy Perry and her baby bump were ready to hit the Met Gala red carpet!
The musician — who is expecting her first child, a daughter, with fiance Orlando Bloom — was anticipating on paying homage to Madonna at this year’s prestigious ball. Speaking with Access Hollywood on Monday (May 4), the “Never Worn White” singer-songwriter revealed she’d planned on wearing an ensemble that “showed off” her baby bump, which she described would be “playing off” this year’s “About Time: Fashion and Duration” theme.
Sadly, we won’t get to see it on the mommy-to-be. As most know, the annual fundraising function was expected to take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York this Monday (May 4), but was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Taking to Instagram hours later, Perry posted a side-view image of what would have been her Met Gala outfit, a pink corset fitted to her baby bump and featuring Jean Paul Gaultier’s iconic conical bra a la Madonna’s iconic look during her 1990 “Blonde Ambition” world tour.
“What would have been… #TheMetBall2020💔” she captioned the picture of the French haute couture fashion designer’s signature creation.
Since making a splash at last year’s event with her chandelier ensemble, Perry was without a doubt one of the most highly-anticipated guests at this year’s ceremony, even more so since the superstar had announced her pregnancy in March.
Perry and Bloom, who celebrated their engagement on Valentine’s Day in 2019, have also been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. The stars were reportedly going to tie the knot in Japan sometime this year but have since postponed their wedding date to 2021 due to the global crisis. The “Dark Horse” musician, who is allegedly due to give birth this summer, even had to cancel her baby shower plans as well.
