Luke Combs And Nicole Hocking Share Engagement Story For The First Time

Luke Combs proposed to his girlfriend, Nicole Hocking, in November 2018. Shortly after, the couple announced the news, but hadn't shared their full engagement story until a recent interview with Olympian Shawn Johnson and her husband NFL player, Andrew East.

Combs revealed that although the proposal ended in a 'yes' it didn't necessarily go as planned. The proposal took place on the day the couple moved from an apartment in Nashville to the house they now live in outside of the city. In the original plan, he was going to put the ring on the collar of one of their cats and when Nicole saw it, he'd pop the question at the new house.

While movers moved their things, the couple stopped by Combs' manager's house with their two cats, however the cats do not travel well. "Her cat peed in the crate and my cat threw up in the crate," Combs says. "So we spent a good part of the morning giving them baths and cleaning them."

"I had bought our cats new collars with our new address on them," he continued. "She loves her cat more than anything in the world. He always sits on her lap on the couch, so I had had the ring and I was gonna put it on the cat's collar, was the idea. When we got to the new house and everything, he was gonna jump up on her lap and everything."

When they finally made it home around 11 p.m., there was "stuff everywhere" and Nicole's cat had some sort of "panic attack" which didn't exactly make for the romantic proposal he was hoping for. Regardless of how everything was playing out, Combs still wanted to propose that night because Nicole's parents were expected to arrive the next day and they were aware of his plan.

"I pretty much just told her what I was going to do," Combs said.

Nicole then chimed in adding a bit from her perspective. "He was like, 'Okay, I got these new collars with the new address on them, and oh, I also got you this," she explained. "And then he pulls [the ring] out and gets down on one knee, does the whole thing. I black out. I don't remember this."

"I wasn't expecting it at all, not in the least bit," she continued. "Especially not in that moment."

The couple is now in full preparation for the wedding. In another recent interview, when asked about the big day, Combs said "things are still on track as of right now."

He added, "That's all I know as far as that stuff goes, we're still planning on doing it, we're still picking out napkins and stuff like that, so that stuff is all systems go as of right now."
