An airplane landing at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport struck and killed a person on the runway. Southwest Airlines flight 1392 was arriving from Dallas on Thursday (May 7) night and was given instructions to land on runway 17. Shortly after touching down, the pilot noticed a person on the runway and attempted to avoid them.

The pilot stopped the plane to contact air traffic controllers about what happened, while an airport operations vehicle found the victim's body. Officials have not identified individual, and it is unclear if he worked at the airport, or why he was on the runway.

There were no reports of injuries on the plane, and all passengers and crew members disembarked without incident.

The Federal Aviation Administration has sent investigators to the scene to help local officials.
