Kane Brown made an appearance on this week's episode of NBC's The Voice for the television debut of his new single, "Cool Again."
The summertime tune, co-written by Brown Josh Hodge, Matthew McGinn and Lindsay Rimes, was released on April 23. The track finds Brown reflecting on an ex, wishing things could go back to the way they were before.
"“Cause I just wanna be cool again, cool again, cool again/ Like we were last summer/ Want you again, you again, you again/ To be stealin’ my covers/ All those tangled in each other nights/ Still playing back in my head/ I just wanna be cool again, cool again, cool again, yeah,” Brown sings in the chorus.
"Cool Again" was meant to be about a break up, but with the times we're in right now, Brown feels like it's more of a pandemic song.
"It was about you just wanted to be with a girl or with a boy that you had last summer and everything was fine and now it’s not," he said. "But, in today’s terms, it’s a whole new song for me because it’s like you just want everything to go back how it was- other than this quarantine."
He added, "You know, like the summer you used to have, being able to hang out with your friends. The whole song has changed for me."
"Cool Again" will likely be included on Brown's next studio album, which he's recently hinted at. "We’re working on the album," he said in a recent interview. "I think we're gonna release an EP first and then the album is coming soon after."
"Cool Again" follows Brown's collaboration with John Legend, "Last Time I Say Sorry" and his previous hit single, "Homesick" from 2018's Experiment album.
