Melissa Etheridge's son, Beckett Cypher, has passed away at the age of 21.

It's unclear what led to Beckett's death, but the sad news was revealed on Etheridge's Twitter account via her team. The tweet said, "We're sad to inform you that Melissa’s son Beckett passed away and there will not be a Concerts From Home show today. - #TeamME."

Concerts From Home is a series during which Etheridge has been performing via Facebook live throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Beckett was Melissa's son with her partner Julie Cypher, born in November 1998. The couple also has a daughter, Bailey Jean, born in February 1997. Both children were born via artificial insemination, and the kids' biological father was eventually revealed as rock singer David Crosby.

Just a few years after both children were born, Melissa and David appeared on "60 Minutes" in 2000 during which they talked about their arrangement regarding Bailey and Beckett. Etheridge said of her kids not having a male father figure at home, "I do not believe that my children will be wanting in any way because they didn't have a father in the home every single day. What they have in the home is two loving parents. I think that puts them ahead of the game."

Crosby also added, "Was there any hesitation in my mind about trying to help them? No. None. The truth is, I probably shouldn't say this, but I don't even think it should be a big deal. I think it's such a natural thing that a straight couple would do for a gay couple, if they were friends."

Our thoughts are with Melissa, Julie and family.
