Police officers had to break up a scuffle between attendees at a protest rally against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer's stay at home orders. Roughly 300 protesters gathered in the pouring rain on Thursday (May 14) to demand that Whitmer reopen the state.
While one of the speakers was telling the crowd they should support local restaurants, a man holding an American flag with a naked doll hanging off it by a noose, started getting into an argument with another woman over the display. One of the protesters, Katie Rogowicz, told Detroit News that the woman felt that the display would depict the protesters in a negative light.
While the two were arguing, the woman tried to grab the flag, and the man was pushed to the ground by another person. Other people in the crowd intervened and tried to break up the fight. As people continued to argue, the speaker called for the police to help as a man carrying a large ax got involved in the altercation.
Officers responded to the disturbance and managed to get the situation under control. The ax was handed over to the police and no one was injured during the melee. The Michigan State Police said that nobody was arrested.
