Nearly two years after Dolores O'Riordan tragically passed away, The Cranberries' Noel and Mike Hogan announced the passing of their mother. The guitarist and bassist, respectively, revealed the sad news via the band's Instagram.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce that our dear loving mother Anne passed away last night after a short illness," the brothers wrote. "She was an inspiration to both of us throughout our lives and careers and we and all our family will miss her forever. Thanks for all the messages of sympathy received from our fans.”

Though it has been a difficult two years for the Hogan brothers, they did have a reason to celebrate recently. Last month, The Cranberries' "Zombie" video hit 1 billion views on YouTube, making them the first Irish band to hit the coveted milestone.

“This is truly a monumental achievement making it one of only a handful of songs from before 2000 and the first ever from and Irish band to achieve a billion views on the channel," O'Riordan's family wrote at the time. "It’s a testament to her pure honest creative genius. Sad she isn’t here to witness this colossal milestone but she is no doubt looking down on us all with a proud beaming smile today!”

The Cranberries are in good company, joining the likes of Coldplay, Guns N' Roses, Twenty One Pilots, Linkin Park, Queen, Imagine Dragons, Gotye, and most recently, Nirvana, as rockers to break the 1 billion view mark.
