A truck driver who plowed through a crowd of protesters on I-35W in Minnesota was released without charges on Tuesday (June 2). Officials said they are still looking into the incident and could file charges against Bogdan Vechirko, 35, at a later date.
Authorities have said they do not believe Vechirko was trying to intentionally injure or target the protesters. Harrowing video from the scene shows a large crowd that gathered in the middle of the highway quickly scatter as Vechirko barrelled towards them. Miraculously, none of the protesters were injured.
After Vechirko's empty fuel tanker came to a stop on the bridge, the crowd of protesters swarmed his truck and started to assault him.
He suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital before he was taken into custody.
