Peaceful Protests Held in Lynchburg to Campbell County

CAMPBELL Co., Va. (WSET) -- Protests in Lynchburg remained peaceful Tuesday night.

Protesters began at Liberty University in Lynchburg around 5 p.m. Protesters stood at the entrance to the tunnel on Wards Road with signs that read "Black Lives Matter" and "Justice for George."

The Liberty University Police Chief even came to speak with protesters and prayed over them.

Due to a mandatory curfew in Lynchburg, protesters made their way to the Sheetz on Wards Road next the airport in Campbell County. They were met with members of the Campbell County Sheriff's Office who asked them to move off of Sheetz's property.

Parts of Wards Road were blocked off to keep protesters safe.

Protesters then went to the shoulder of the road and marched a little ways up and down Wards Road before a property owner let them in his yard.

Marquis Scott said he didn't realize there was a protest Tuesday night, but he said he stands with the protesters.

Additionally, through the Virginia State Police, Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema requested mobilization of the Virginia Army National Guard to Lynchburg to ensure the Lynchburg Police Department has adequate response capability to protect the safety of Lynchburg residents.
