A little over two months after his death due to complications with coronavirus, John Prine's family has shared the final song he recorded. "I Remember Everything" was written by Prine with longtime collaborator Pat McLaughlin and produced by Dave Cobb.
"I remember everything / Things I can't forget / The way you turned and smiled on me/ On the night that we first met / And I remember every night / Your ocean eyes of blue / How I miss you in the morning light/ Like roses miss the dew," Prine sings in the reflective acoustic.
"I Remember Everything" was released following Thursday evening's (June 11) online tribute concert, Picture Show: A Tribute Celebrating John Prine. The special featured Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, Eric Church, Kacey Musgraves, Bill Murray and many more celebrating Prine's life and work. Produced by Prine's family and Oh Boy Records, the program raised at least $200,000 for charities helping people impacted by COVID-19.
Prine died on April 7 from complications of coronavirus (COVID-19) at age 73. The news came a week after Prine's wife, Fiona Prine, announced that he has been hospitalized since March 26 after the "sudden onset of COVID-19 symptoms."
Fiona released a statement on April 8, one day after Prine's death was announced.
"We have no words to describe the grief our family is experiencing at this time," she said. "John was the love of my life and adored by our sons Jody, Jack and Tommy, daughter in law Fanny, and by our grandchildren."
"Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the outpouring of love we have received from family, friends, and fans all over the world," she continued. "John will be so missed but he will continue to comfort us with his words and music and the gifts of kindness, humor and love he left for all of us to share."
In addition to Fiona, Prine is survived by three sons, Jody, Jack and Tommy along with his grandchildren and many beloved friends.
