It's official—Christopher Meloni is returning to the Law & Order universe.

On Tuesday (June 16), NBC announced their new line up of TV shows for fall 2020. Fans of the long running Law & Order: SVU will be delighted to see a new spinoff series will be premiering later this year. Not only will there be an SVU spinoff series, the new show, titled Law & Order: Organized Crime, will see Meloni reprise his role as the beloved character Elliott Stabler.

The new series will follow Stabler as he returns to the NYPD after a 10 year absence—Meloni left SVU back in 2011 during the show's 13th season. The new series will see Stabler in his role as head of the organized crime division. According to the description for Law & Order: Organized Crime, Stabler will face a major readjustment upon his return to the force. "The city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he's been away," the description reads. "He must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning."

Law & Order: Organized Crime has already been picked up for 13 episodes, though the show has not yet begun filming due to COVID-19. According to Deadline, none of the new shows NBC announced for its fall lineup have begun filming, either. Despite delays in filming, Deadline reports NBC remains confident they'll have new episodes ready for the fall 2020 TV season.

A premiere date for Law & Order: Organized Crime has yet to be set, however, the show will air on Thursday evenings at 10pm EST. Law & Order: SVU will air right before its spinoff in the 9pm time slot.
