James Van Der Beek made a heartbreaking announcement this weekend.
On Saturday (June 20), the actor revealed his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, suffered another miscarriage, seven months after the couple’s previous loss. James took to social media to deliver the unfortunate news with an emotional statement.
“After suffering a brutal, very public miscarriage last November, we were overjoyed to learn we were pregnant,” the 43-year-old actor wrote with a picture of his wife lying beside their daughter in bed. “This time, we kept the news to ourselves. But last weekend, once again, 17 weeks in… the soul we’d been excited to welcome into the world had lessons for our family that did not include joining us in a living physical body.”
The Dawson’s Creek alum explained that Kimberly was rushed to the hospital to receive blood transfusions. During her treatment, James recalled feeling helpless as doctors “navigated the maze of regulations to save her life,” and that all he could do was “massage her feet and try to keep her warm.”
He later urged, “We’ve got to take better care of each other” because “the world is in pain right now.”
“There's denial, shock, numbness, anger - all the old patterns we cling to when deep trauma is unearthed. And there are no words to ease that pain... to make the process hurt less or to solve it quickly,” he continued. “But the way out of it? Starts with an open, broken-hearted contemplation of this question: How can we take better care of each other? And to all the families who have gone through this... you are not alone."
As fans know, James — who shares five children with Kimberly — revealed the couple’s last miscarriage in November 2019 during his season of Dancing with the Stars. (This latest miscarriage is Kimberly’s fifth in nine years.) Speaking of the loss at the time, James shared, “You never know why these things happen. It’s what I’ve been telling my kids. All you know is that it brings you closer together.”
